Solution

Reasons for the given condition:

  1. Pea is a leguminous plant that has nitrogen-fixing symbiotic bacteria like Rhizobium in its root nodules.
  2. These nitrogen-fixing bacteria take the atmospheric nitrogen and enrich the soil with nitrogen-containing compounds like ammonia and nitrates, which are useful for plant growth and development.
  3. As a result, after harvesting a crop of peas, a farmer does not need to use nitrogenous fertilizers in the field because excess nitrogen in the soil can kill the plants.

Crops that show the same effect:

  1. Soybean
  2. Lupins
  3. Peanut
  4. Grams
