A father is 3 times as old as his son. In 12 years time, he will be twice as old as his son. Find their present ages.?

Solution:

Let x be the current age of the son.

Son = x, Father = 3x

In 12 years

Son = x + 12, Father = 3(x+12) “OR” 3x + 12
Given ,after 12 years

2* Age of son = Age of father

2(x + 12) = 3x + 12
2x + 24 = 3x + 12
24 - 12 = x

Therefore, current(present) age of son is 12, and father is 36
