A father is 6 times as old as his son. After 4 years he will be only 4 times as old as his son will be. What are their present ages.

Let the present age of father be x and the son be y.
Now, x = 6y ---------- (1)
After 4 years,

age of father will be x+ 4
age of son will be y +4
Therefore, x + 4= 4( y + 4)
x + 4=4y + 16
x = 4y + 12
or 6y = 4y + 12 {Using equation (1)}
2y = 12
y = 6
Plugging back the value of y in equation (1), we get:
x = 6*6= 36
Hence, the present age of father is 36years and present age of son is 6 years.
