Let the present age of father is $x$ and present sum of ages of his sons be $y$ .
Case 1
$x = 3 y$ ----- (i)
Case 2
Five years later ;
Father's age $= x + 5$
Sum of ages of his son's $= y + 10$
Given that
$x + 5 = 2 (y + 10)$
from (i) put $x = 3 y$
$x = 45$
Present age of father is $45$ years.
