Solution

The correct option is A 10
Let the number of friends be x
Amount paid by each friend = Rs.500x
Amount paid by each friend when two friends didn't pay = Rs.500x2
According to the question
500x2500x=12.50
500x500x+1000=12.50x(x2)
x22x80=0
x210x+8x80=0
(x10)(x+8)=0
Neglecting negative value,
x=10
Hence, there were 10 friends.

So, option a is correct.
