Question

A film of water is formed between two straight parallel wires of length 10 cm each, separated by 0.5 cm. If their separation is to be increased by 1 mm, while still maintaining their parallelism, how much work will have to be done? [T=7.2×102N/m]

Open in App
Solution

Work done,

W = 2t Δ A

surface tension, T = 7.2×102 N / m

W = 2×7.2×102×[(10×102×0.6×102)(10×102×0.5×102)]

W = 14.4×102×104[65]

W = 1.44×105 J
