Is $\frac{5}{9}$ equal to $\frac{4}{5}$ ?

The given fractions $\frac{5}{9},\frac{4}{5}$ are unlike fractions because they have different denominators.

When we compare two unlike fractions, we first get their equivalent fractions with a denominator which is a common multiple of the denominators of both the fractions.

The LCM of 9 and 5 is 45.

The equivalent fractions with the same denominator are :

$\frac{5}{9}=\frac{5\times 5}{9\times 5}=\frac{25}{45}$ and $\frac{4}{5}=\frac{4\times 9}{5\times 9}=\frac{36}{45}$

Since, $\frac{25}{45}<\frac{36}{45}$

$\therefore \frac{5}{9}\ne \frac{4}{5}$
