(a) Find x for 4x+10=20

(b) Set up an equation in the following case:
Irfan says that he has 7 marbles more than five times the marbles Parmeet has. Irfan has 37 marbles. (Take 'm' to be the number of Parmeet’s marbles.) [2 MARKS]

Solution: 1 Mark each

(a) 4x+10=20

Dividing all the terms by 2, we get

2x+5=10

2x=5

x=52

x=2.5


(b) Let the number of marbles Parmeet has = m

No. of marble Parmeet has in terms of m = 5m+7

Given that Parmeet has 37 marbles, the equation so formed will be

5m+7=37
