A fish lies at the bottom of a 8 m deep water lake. A bird flies 12 m above the water surface and refractive index of water is 4/3. Then calculate the distance between fish and the image of bird.

Let y be the apparent height of the bird above water as seen by the fish.
Then we have
y12=μwμa=43
y=16 m
So distance between the fish and the image of bird =8+16=24 m
