Solution

Fishes are aquatic animals. They do not have lungs but they have gills which help in their respiration under water. The water enters the mouth of the fish and pass through the feathery filaments of the gills which are rich in blood. These gill filaments absorb oxygen from the water and move it into the bloodstream. In the absence of water, they are not able to respire and ultimately die within a short period of time.
