Question

A fixed beam AB of span 16 m has two internal hinges at C & D each 5 m distant from fixed ends. The central portion CD of span 6 m is meant to support a trolley for lifting loads. If the maximum load that can be lifted by the trolley (inclusive of its own weight) is 150 kN and the trolley can move on the central span CD only, then maximum bending moment developed at 'A' (in KN-m) rounded off to whole integer will be ____ (Consider trolley has two wheels with a wheel base of (2 m)
  1. 625

Solution

The correct option is A 625

Let us first of all draw ILD for moment at 'A'
Load per wheel of trolley = 1502=75kN
For MA to be maximum, left wheel of trolley should coincide with 'C'
(MA)max=(75×5+75×103)=625kNm
