Solution

Given:
The speed of the thief, sT=25 m/s
The police car is travelling 3600 m in 3 min.
In other words, the car is covering 1200 m in 1 min, i.e. its speed, sP=1200 m/min

1 hr=60 min and 1000 m=1 km

1200 m=12001000=1.2 km
  • The speed of the police car in kmph =1.2 km/min×60 min/hr=72 kmph
The speed of the police car in m/s will be 72×518=20 m/s
But the thief is moving at a speed of 25 m/s.
  • Therefore, no! The police cannot be able to overtake/catch the thief if they move at this speed.
