A force of 10 N acts on an area of 0.1 m2. The force is kept the same but the area is reduced to half. Which of the following is true?
(a) The pressure does not change.
(b) The pressure reduces to half.
(c) The pressure increases by 1.5 times.
(d) The pressure doubles.

Solution
(d) The pressure doubles.
Pressure (P) = Force (F)/Area (A)
= 10 N / 0.1 m2 = 100 N/m2 = 100 Pa
Now, according to the question,
New area, A' = A/2 and F' = F
∴ P' = F'/A' = 2F/A = 2P
= 2 100 = 200 Pa
Thus, the pressure gets doubled.
