Question

A force of 10 Newton acts on a body of mass 2kg for 3seconds initially at rest calculate velocity acquired by the body and change in momentum of the body

Open in App
Solution

Force = mass× acceleration
F =10 N
mass = 2 kg

a = F/m = 10/2 = 5 m/s²

i)now, u = 0

t = 3 sec

v = u + at = 0 + 3×5 = 15 m/s

ii) initial momentum = mu = 2×0 =0

final momentum = mv = 2×15 = 30 kg m/s

change in momentum = final momentum - initial momentum
= 30 -0 = 30 kgm/s
