A fraction becomes 911, if 2 is added to both the numerator and the denominator. If, 3 is added to both the numerator and the denominator it becomes 56. Find the fraction. [3 MARKS]

Let the fraction be xy

If 2 is added to both the numerator and the denominator,

(x+2)(y+2)=911

11x+4=9y(i)

3 is added to both the numerator and the denominator

(x+3)(y+3)=56

6x+3=5y(ii)

On solving (i) and (ii) we get,

11x=9y4x=9y411

Substituting value of x in (ii)

6x+3=5y

6(9y411)+3=5y

y=9

Now, x=9y411

x=9(9)411

x=11

x=7,y=9

Required fraction is 79
