Solution

Since, activity of a sample is given by,

A=λN

Where,

λ= decay constant

N= Number of active nuclei

To reach the safety limit, intensity (or activity) has to become 164 times of the initial intensity.

Hence, the number of active nucleus should also decrease by a factor of 164

Let us suppose, this process takes n half lifes

2n=64n=6

t=2×6=12 hrs
