Question

A fruit seller bought some oranges at 4 for Rs. 3 and an equal number at 5 for Rs. 3. He mixed the two lots and sold these at 90 paise each. Find the gain or loss per cent.
C.P. of 1 orange of 1st kind = Rs.34
= Rs. 0.75
C.P. of 1 orange of 2nd kind = Rs.35
= Rs. 0.60
On mixing, C.P. of 2 oranges = Rs. 0.75 + Rs 0.60 = Rs 1.35 and S.p. of 2 oranges = 2×90 paise

Solution

The correct option is B 3313%
Lets fruit seller brought a lot of 100 oranges
C.P. of 100 orange of 1st kind = Rs.34×100
= Rs.(0.75×100)=Rs 75
C.P. of 100 orange of 2nd kind = Rs.35×100
= Rs.(0.60×100)=Rs 60
On mixing, C.P. of 200 oranges = Rs. 75 + Rs 60 = Rs 135 and S.p. of 200 oranges =200×0.90=Rs 180
Profit = 180-135=Rs 45
% of profit=45×100135=3313%
