Question

A galvanometer gives full scale deflection with 0.006 A current. By connecting it to a 4990 Ω resistance, it can be converted into a voltmeter of range 0 – 30 V. If connected to a 2n249Ω a resistance, it becomes an ammeter of range 0 – 1.5 A. The value of n is

Solution

For voltmeter : Tg=0.006A,R=4990Ω,V=30V
V=Ig(Rg+R)

30=0.006(Rg+4990)

Rg+4990=30×10006=5000

Rg=10Ω

For ammeter : I=1.5A,Rg=10Ω

LgRg=(IIg)Rs

0.006×10=(1.50.006)×2n249

n=0.06×2491.494×2=5.
