Solution

A gas at 240 K is heated to 127 ℃ . Find the percentage change in the volume of the gas(pressure remaining constant).
Let initial volume of Gas be V1 and final volume of gas be V2.
Given initial temperature T1 = 240 K, final tempearture T2 = 127 C
Initial conditions Final conditions
T1 = 240 K T2 = 127 C = 127 + 273 = 400 K
V1 = V1 V2 = V2
since pressure is constant, temperature -volume varying, Charles law will be applied
Applying Charles Law

V1/T1 = V2/T2
V1/240 = V2/400
V1/V2 = 240/400
% change in volume = [400-240]/240 ] x 100 = 25 %
As the temperature of gas increases, the volume of gas will increase by 25 %
