According to Boyle's law,
$P V$ = constant
Thus, $P_{1} V_{1} = P_{2} V_{2}$

where $P_{1} a n d V_{1}$ are the initial pressure and volume, and $P_{2} a n d V_{2}$ are the final pressure and volume of the gas.

Thus, $V_{2} = \frac{P_{1} V_{1}}{P_{2}}$

Hence, $V_{2} = \frac{12.3 X 40}{60}$
= 8.2 litres.
