Solution

The correct option is B 2Sv2ρ

Initial velocity of gas,
vi=v^i
Final velocity of gas, after bending through 90 is,
vf=v^j
So, change in velocity,
Δv=vfvi=v^jv^i
Now, magnitude of change in velocity,
|Δv|=v2+v2=2v
Magnitude of change in momentum of gas is,
|Δp|=m|Δv|
|Δp|=2mv
Magnitude of force on pipe exerted by gas will be,
F=ΔpΔt
F=2mvΔt .............(1)
Mass m of gas passing through cross section of pipe in time Δt,
m=vΔtSρ ............(2)
[ volume = length × Area ]
On putting (2) in (1)
F=2×vΔtSρ×vΔt
F=2Sv2ρ
