Question

A gas tungsten arc welding operation is performed using current of 250A and an arc voltage of 20V at a welding speed of 5mm/s. Assuming that the arc efficiency is 70%, the net heat input per unit length of the weld will be
(round off to one place).
  1. 0.7

Solution

The correct option is A 0.7
Given data :

Welding current, I=250A

Voltage,V=20V

Welding speed, =v=5mm per second

Arc heat transfer efficiency, η=70%

Heat required per unit length,

Hs=VIv×η=250×205×1000×0.7

=7001000=0.7kJ/mm
