The carbon compound is methyl amine $C H_{3} N H_{2}$ . It is gas at room temperature and forms soluble hydrochloride salt with HCl. The solution on treating with $N a N O_{2}$ gives off nitrogen leaving behind a solution which smells of wood spirit. Wood spirit is methanol.
