No. of soldiers $=7500$

Clearly it is between ${85}^2$ & ${90}^2$

${85}^2=7225$ and ${90}^2=8100$

${86}^2=7396$

${87}^2=7569$

So nearest perfect square number to $7500$ is $7396$

So, it is ${86}^2=7396$

Left out $=7500-7396$

$=104$.
