Question

A glass of refractive index 1.5 is coated with a thin layer of thickness of t of refractive index 1.8 light of wavelength λ tavelling at the upper and the lower surfaes of the layer and the two reflected rays interfere. If λ=648nm, obtain the least value of t (in 108m) for which the rays interfere constructively.

Solution

For constructive Interference:
2×μ×t=(2n+1)λ2
2×1.8×t=640×1092
t=9×108m
