Solution

Calculate the amount of the first and second types of tea:

  • Let the pounds sold of the first type of tea be x.
  • The pounds sold for the second type tea 50-x.
  • The grocer sells the first type of tea for $8.00 per pound.
  • The Selling amount of x pounds 8x.
  • The grocer sells the second type of tea for $6.00 per pound.
  • The Selling amount of (50-x) pounds is 6(50-x).

According to the question:

8x+6(50-x)=(50×7.40)8x+300-6x=3702x=70x=702x=35

So, the pounds sold for the second type of tea 50-35=15pounds.

Hence, the first type of tea of 35 pounds and the second type of tea of 15 pounds use to make 50 pounds of tea that will sell for $7.40 per pound.
