A hall is in the shape of a parallelogram. One of the parallel walls measures 8 m. The perpendicular distance corresponding to that wall is 1.75 times the length of this wall. If the cost of carpeting the hall is Rs.2 per $m^2$ , find the total cost of carpeting the hall.

Refer to the following figure:

Given:
Base = 8 cm
Height = 1.75 times base.
= 1.75 $\times 8cm$
= 14 cm

Area of parallelogram = Base $\times$ height
= 8 $\times$ (1.75 $\times$8)
= 8 $\times 14$
= 112 $m^2$ ​

Total cost of carpeting the hall = Cost per m² $\times$​ Area
= 2 $\times$ 112
= Rs.224
