Question

A hall is in the shape of a parallelogram. One of the parallel walls measures 8 m. The perpendicular distance corresponding to that wall is 1.75 times the length of this wall. If the cost of carpeting the hall is Rs.2 per m2 , find the total cost of carpeting the hall.

Solution

Refer to the following figure:

Given:
Base = 8 cm
Height = 1.75 times base.
= 1.75 × 8 cm
= 14 cm

Area of parallelogram = Base × height
= 8 × (1.75 ×8)
= 8 ×14
= 112 m2

Total cost of carpeting the hall = Cost per m2 × Area
= 2 × 112
= Rs.224
