Question: A heavy and a light body have equal momentum. Which of the following has greater kinetic energy
... A body at ground level will have which energy?

Solution
The equation for kinetic energy is K.E=½MV² -------1 The equation for momentum is P=MV ----------2 multiplying the denominator and numerator of equation 1 with 'M' K.E=(M²V²)/2M -------3 But MV=P So, K.E=P²/2M If momentum is constant, then we can say that KE is inversely proportional to Mass. So, the one with lesser mass will have more kinetic energy.
A body at rest (at ground) possesses potential energy. Because there is gravitational force acting upon it. Without the application of gravity, a body can’t possess position of rest. There is no potential energy without gravitational force.
