Question

A heavy stone is easy to carry when it is inside water. Why?

Solution

  1. It is due to the buoyant force. The buoyant force is the upward force a fluid exerts on an object immersed in it.
  2. When an object immersed in a fluid, the weight of the object acts downwards.
  3. And the buoyant force acts to the top opposite to the weight of the object.
  4. So for an object inside water buoyancy force is greater than the weight of the object.
  5. Hence, a heavy stone is easy to carry when it is inside water.
