Question

A hemispherical lead of radius 8 cm is cast into a right circular cone of base radius 6 cm. Determine the height of the cone, correct to two places of decimal.

Open in App
Solution

The volume remains the same so u can compare them :
Volume of hemisphere =2/3*pi* (r1)^3
= volume of cone 1/3*pi*(r2)^2*h
r1=radius of hemisphere
r2=radius of cone
h= height of cone
Area of hemisphere = Area of cone
(Pi÷3) gets cancels on each side.

2*8*8*8 = 6*6*h

h = 2*8*8*8 / 6*6

h = 256/9

h = 28.44 cm
