Question

A hollow glass prism does not give spectrum when light passed through it. Explain.

Solution

  1. Spectrum is produced by the deviation of a different colour by the means of refraction.
  2. When the white light travels from air into the hollow prism, there is no change of medium, as the prism has air inside.
  3. Thus, a beam of white light does not give a spectrum on passing through a hollow prism.
