Question

A homozygous tall plant (T) bearing red flowers (R) is crossed with a homozygous dwarf plant (t) bearing white flowers (r)

Give the dihybrid ratio and the phenotype of the offsprings of the F-2 generation, when two plants of the F-1 generation are crossed.

Solution

  1. The genotype of the homozygous tall plant bearing red flowers is TTRR and the genotype of the homozygous dwarf plant bearing white flowers is ttrr, when they have crossed then the genotype of the F1 generation will be TtRr.
  2. When the F-1 generation offsprings are self-crossed then the dihybrid ratio of the F2 generation can be obtained by Punnett square.

TRTrtRtr
TRTTRRTTRrTtRRTtRr
TrTTRrTTrrTtRrTtrr
tRTtRRTtRrttRRttRr
trTtRrTtrrttRrttrr

Thus, the dihybrid ratio of the F-2 generation is 9:3:3:1 and the phenotype is tall red: tall white: dwarf red: dwarf white respectively.
