Question

A horizontal force of 500 N pulls two masses 10 Kg and 20 Kg (lying on a frictionless table) connected by a light string. What is the tension in the string? Does the answer depend on which mass end, the pull is applied?

Open in App
Solution

Let T be the tension on the string
500N force is applied its produce an acceleration a
500-T=20a eq(1)..
T= 10a eq(2)..
using this eq(1) and eq(2)
a=503

T=5003
The tension in the string does not depend on the mass it only depends on force applied .
