Question

A hostel had rations for 60 days for 500 students. After 12 days, 300 more students join the hostel. How long will the remaining rations last?

Open in App
Solution

Let total rations be P kg.
Given, the rations are sufficient for 60 days. So, the ration used in one day is p/60 kg. This is for students. So, the ration used per day per student is p/(60*500) kg.
ration used in 12 days=12*p/60=p/5 kg
ration left= 4p/5
Let the number of days be d.
Now, number of students is 800.
So, ration per day per student= (4p/5)/(800*d)
p/(60*500)=(4p/5)/800*d
Therefore d=30.
The remaining rations will last for 30 days.
