Open in App
Solution

let the number of people staying be x
so
each person has to pay = 4800x
if 4 more were staying each person has to pay =4800x+4 \

as per the problem
4800x4800x+4=200
4800(x+4x)x2+4x=200
24(4)=x2+4x
 x2+4x96=0

D = 16 + 384 = 400
D=20
x = b+D2a,bD2a

=4+202,4202
Now 4202 is rejected because number of people cannot be negative

So taking 4+202 we have
= 162=8
there were 8 people orginally staying overnight
