Question

A housewife made a chocolate cake and a vanilla cake that were exactly of the same size. The chocolate cake was cut into 6 equal pieces and vanilla cake was cut into 12 equal pieces. She gave 2 pieces of chocolate cake to her driver and 2 pieces of vanilla cake to her maid. She gave the rest of the cake to her children. What fraction of each cake was given to her children ?

Total number of pieces of chocolate cake = 6Total number of pieces of vanilla cake = 12Number of pieces of chocolate cake given to driver = 2Number of pieces of vanilla cake given to maid = 2Fraction of pieces of chocolate cake given to driver = 26 = 13Fraction of pieces of vanilla cake given to maid = 212 = 16Fraction of chocolate cake left = 1 - 13 = 23Fraction of vanilla cake left = 1 - 16 = 56So, two - third of the chocolate cake was given to children and Five-sixth of the vanilla cake was given to children.
