(a) The strands of the DNA double helix are held together by hydrogen bonding interactions between the complementary base pairs. Hydrogen bonds occur between the bases of both the strands (template and complementary strand). These hydrogen bonds are individually weak but collectively quite strong.
(b) In chemical terms DNA is the acronym for deoxyribonucleic acid, usually 2'-deoxy-5'-ribonucleic acid and RNA stands for ribonucleic acid.
