(A) Chemistry plays an important role to provide us with the things of daily use like toothpaste, soap, detergents, paints, clothes, medicines, fertilisers, plastics. (1 mark)
It also plays a major role in manufacturing the consumer products like glass, paper, pencil.(1 mark)
It is also used during prepartion of substances used in defence like gunpowder, T.N.T etc. (1 marks)

(B) (a) The given image is that of a spirit lamp. (0.5 marks)
A spirit lamp is a burner made of glass, brass or steel containing a wick. It is used to heat substances. (0.5 marks)

(b) The given image is that of a thistle funnel. (0.5 marks)
A thistle funnel is a bulb-shaped reservoir with a stem and a stopper. It is used to transfer liquids in a controlled manner. (0.5 marks)

(c) The given image is that of a tripod stand. (0.5 marks)
A tripod stand is made of iron and supports the apparatus during experiments. (0.5 marks)

(C) (a) Marie Curie is a 20th-century scientist who worked on radioactivity. She was awarded the Nobel prize in physics and chemistry for her contributions to radioactivity. She also discovered Radium. [2 marks]

(b) Alfred Nobel was a Swedish chemist who discovered dynamite. Alfred Nobel also instituted the Nobel Awards for individuals who have contributed to the development of humankind. [2 marks]
