The correct option is B 5/12
Let A be the event of husband getting selected.
P(A) = 1/4
P( not A) = 3/4
Let B be the event of wife getting selected.
P(B) = 1/3
P( not B) = 2/3
Now let E be the event of one of them getting selected
Therefore,
P(E) = P(A) P( not B) + P(B) P( not A)
= 1/4 x 2/3 + 1/3 x 3/4
= 5/12
