1. According to Archimedes' principle, when a body is immersed in liquid then an upward force called buoyant force(upthrust) acts on the body which is equal to the weight of the liquid displaced.
2. If the density of the liquid is more than the density of the body, then the body will float.
3. If the density of the liquid is less than the density of the body, then the body sinks.
4. Since the density of milk is more than the density of pure water, hence in milk more upward force will act which stops the hydrometer from going deep in the milk.
5. But in the case of water, the upward force will be less than that of milk as water is less dense as compared to milk.

Hence, A hydrometer sinks more in water than in pure milk.
