In a mathematics test, the following marks were obtained by 40 students. Arrange these marks on a table using tally marks.

Find how many students obtained marks equal to or more than 7?

Although the table above contains a large volume of data, we can classify them under specific values for the simplicity of representation.If you take a close look at the values of the table above, you will find a repetition of particular values quite a few times.We use their repetitions to construct a tally table as shown below (e.g. 2 students got 1 mark, 3 students got 2 marks and so on).

The number 1 is represented as I. The number 2 is represented as II and so on. But number 5 is represented as ​​​​

From the table, we can see that 5 students scored 7 marks, 4 students scored 8 marks and 3 students scored 9 marks.

So, the total number of students who scored more than or equal to 7 marks are 5+4+3 = 12 students.
