Question

(a) In which state Lead bromide conducts electricity?

Open in App
Solution

Lead bromide will conduct electricity in a molten state.

Electrolysis of Molten Lead Bromide:

  • Electrolysis of Lead bromide is carried out by taking solid Lead bromide and heating it in a silica crucible.
  • Solid Lead bromide does not conduct electricity as its ions are held tightly. It is heated to 380oC to melt and is kept molten by slow heating.

The reaction that occurs during electrolysis:

PbBr2Pb2++2Br-

Hence, Lead bromide will conduct electricity, when it is in a molten state.
