Question

(A) is a binary compound of a univalent metal 1.422 g of (A) reacts completely with 0.321 g of sulphur in an evacuated and sealed tube to give 1.743 g of a white crystalline solid (B), that forms a hydrated double salt (C) with Al2(SO4)3. Here (A), (B) and (C) are identified as (A):KO2, (B):K2SO4 and (C): K2SO4.Al2(SO4)2alum.24H2O.

If the given statement is true enter 1 else 0.

Solution

A is binary salt of univalent metal A converts S to sulphate.Hence A contains oxygen. Since, A is a binary salt thus A can be
MO2(superoxide) with O2 anion.
1 mole of S corresponds to 1 mole of sulphate.
Let M be the molecular mass of metal in A.
MO2(M+32)+S32M2SO4(2M+96)
2M+9632=1.7430.321
Hence, M=38.87=39
Thus, binary compound
A is KO2, B is K2SO4, C is K2SO4.Al2(SO4)3(alum).24H2O
