The turning effect of a force depends upon the perpendicular distance of the line of action of the applied force from the axis of rotation. Larger the perpendicular distance, less is the force required to turn the body. Therefore, if the length of the jack screw is more, we need to apply less force to rotate the jack to lift the heavy load.
