Solution

The correct option is B 752

There are two events involved. These are dependent events as the picking up of one jelly bean affects the probability of other jelly bean being picked.

Event 1:
Number of red jelly beans =15
Total number of jelly beans =40

The probability P(R1) that the first jelly bean picked up is red:

P(R1)=Number of red jelly beansTotal number of jelly beans

P(R1)=1540

P(R1)=38

Event 2:
Now,
Number of red jelly beans left =14
Total number of jelly beans =39

The probability P(R2) that the first jelly bean picked up is red:

P(R2)=Number of red jelly beans left Total number of jelly beans

P(R2)=1439

The probability P(Both R) that the first jelly bean and the second jelly bean picked up both are red is obtained by multiplying P(R1) and P(R2)

P(Both R)=P(R1)×P(R2)

P(Both R)=38×1439

P(Both R)=752

The probability P(Both R) that the first jelly bean and the second jelly bean picked up both are red is 752.

Therefore, option (b.) is the correct answer.
