A kite is attached to a string. Find the length of the string, when the height of the kite is 60 m. and the string makes an angle ${30}^{\circ }$ with the ground. [2 MARKS]

Let KT be the height of kite and PK is the string which makes an angle of ${30}^{\circ }$ with the ground.

$\therefore$ KT = 60 m Let KP = x m

Now in right $\Delta PKT$,


$sin\theta =\frac{Perpendicular}{Hypotenuse}=\frac{KT}{PK}\Rightarrow sin{30}^{\circ }=\frac{60}{x}$

$\Rightarrow \frac{1}{2}=\frac{60}{x}\Rightarrow x=2\times 60=120m$ [1 MARK]
The length of the string is 120m.
