Solution

The correct option is D 2
Given:
Dright=100 cm and Dleft=40 cm.

Since, the near point for the eyes of the lady are shifted to a distance more than 25 cm, we can say that the lady is suffering from far sightedness.

To treat farsightedness convex lenses are used. These lenses form the image of the object lying at the normal near point(25 cm), at the near point of the defected eye.

Hence, the focal length of the lens used for the right eye:

1fright=1251100

1fright=3100

fright=1003 cm

Focal length of the lens used for the left eye:

1fleft=125140

fleft=1001.5 cm

Magnification of the telescope is:

m=ffe

For astronomical telescope, focal length of objective lens, (f) is greater than the eyelens (fe).

f=fleft=1001.5 cm

and fe=fright=1003 cm

m=1001.5×3100=2

Hence, (D) is correct answer.
Note :
For a compound microscope, the focal length of the objective lens is greater than the focal length of the eye piece.
