Let, x be the number of 50 paise coins and y be the number of Rs 1 coins.
According to the question,
$y = 40$ ............(i)
and $\frac{x}{2} + y = 25.50$
$\Rightarrow x + 2 y = 51$ ...........(ii)
Subtracting equation (i) from (ii) and solving we get, $x = 29, y = 11$ .
