Question

A large box is raised to a vertical height of 8m, when the energy spent is 64,000J. Calculate the mass of the box. [ Take g=10ms-2]

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Given data:

Height, h=8m

Mass of water, m=? (To be calculated)

Acceleration due to gravity, g=10ms-2

Potential Energy, P.E.=64,000J

Mathematical expression for potential energy:

PotentialEnergy=mass×accelerationduetogravity×heightP.E.=m×g×h

Step 2: By putting the values in the above expression, we get

P.E.=m×g×h64,000J=m×10m/s2×8mm=64,00010×8=800m

Hence, mass of the box is 800kg.
