Question

A large cylindrical tank contains 0.750m3 of nitrogen gas at 27C and 1.50×105 Pa (absolute pressure). The tank has a tight fitting piston that allows the volume to be changed. What will be the pressure if the volume is decreased to 0.480m3 and the temperature is increased to 157C

Solution

From the ideal gas equation PV=nRT , since the number of moles have to remains constant,

PVT must be constant.

Hence, (1.5X105)(0.75)300=P(0.48)430

P=433011.25X105Pa=3.36X105Pa

Answer is 3.36X105Pa
